Chapter 1: Theories and practices background of Thunen model and suburban agriculture rings. The development of urban areas in both size, quantity and population have led to a number of issues, among which is the provision of food and foodstuff to urban inhabitants. Hanoi is the capital, "the heart" of our country. Especially, on 1/8/2008, the administrative boundary of Hanoi was adjusted. Researching Hanoi suburban agriculture rings based on Von Thunen’s agricultural ring theory will contribute to the development of Ha Noi towards the effective and sustainable goals. 1. RESEARCH STATEMENT INTRODUCTION 2.1 Object Applying Von Thunen’s theory on the development of agricultural rings within the metropolitan influence to research Hanoi suburban agricultural rings. 2.2 Mission Overview of Von Thunen’s theory on the suburban agriculture rings and the development of agriculture rings within the metropolitan influence Analyzing factors that affect to the generation of Hanoi suburban agriculture rings. Applying Thunen’s model to analyze the actual state of Hanoi suburban agriculture rings. Promoting development orientations and solutions of Hanoi suburban agriculture rings till 2020. 2. OBJECT, MISSION AND LIMITATION 2.3 Limitation - In content: Applying Thunen’s model to explore the distribution of agricultural rings of 8 main agricultural products (rice, maize, vegetables, flowers, pigs, cattle, poultry and fishery). - In location: Hanoi Capital after boundary expansion on August 1st 2008, including 10 districts; Son Tay town and 18 suburb districts. Moreover, research boundary is also considered in the relationship with other nearby areas - In data source: statistical data published in 2000 and 2007 2. OBJECT, MISSION AND LIMITATION RESEARCH STEPS (I.1) Collect and estimate data of agriculture in Hanoi suburbs and adjacent areas. (I.2) Analyze potential gravitational values of agricultural products. (II) Analyze the distribution of agriculture rings in Hanoi suburbs and adjacent areas and their relations to city centers. (III) Evaluating Thunen agricultural structure in Ha Noi Research result Overview of Thunen’s theory on the suburban agriculture rings within the metropolitan influence Applying Thunen’s model in researching suburban agriculture rings in Hanoi result 2 Set up the structure and distribution of agricultural rings in expanded Hanoiresult 3 result Recommend solutions to develop suburban agricultural rings in Hanoi result 3 result 1 result1. Overview of thunen’s theory on suburban agriculture rings within the metropolitan influence Content: The pattern of the agricultural location, shapes into the area of concentric ring within the metropolitan influence. According to Thunen’s theory, around a city center 5 agricultural specialized rings in the broad sense may exist and be developed . 1.1 Von Thunen’s theory of developing agricultural rings around the city centers (1783- 1850) Relationships between profit of selling agricultural products and distance to the market Argumentations of Thunen’s agricultural rings Profit: P = V – (E + T) P - Land value to an agricultural product A (unspecified) result1. Overview of thunen’s theory about the suburban agriculture rings within the metropolitan influence 1.2 Gravity Model and its application in the construction of Thunen agricultural rings structure Gravity model is a potential concept of dynamics which has been applied by Stewart for social sciences since 1947 Applied Newton’s gravity model to agricultural production, the potential value Vo at point O is expressed by following formula: ∑ = n i a i i D PG 1 Vo = - Vo represents the potential value at any point O - Pi represents the agricultural products yields in each area i (i = 1, 2... n) - Di represents the distance from the production district O to many other production districts. - G is the proportional constant; n is the number of production districts - a is the weighted factor which shows the degree of influence by distance. result1. Overview of thunen’s theory about the suburban agriculture rings within the metropolitan influence 1.3 Method of modelling of Thunen agricultural ring based on the Gravity model. In the application of Gravity model to research Thunen structure, the concept of product - potential is: “The summation of forces by which the agricultural products are drawn to market at some distance from the production point (district), or that of the influential forces on agricultural production yields at an area of a certain sphere”. result1. Defining the structure and distribution of agricultural rings in expanded hanoi Distribution of Agricultural Products with Ha Noi’s citadel as the center in 2000 and 2007 Districts in the edge of city develop flowers, vegetables, poultry, fishery. The farthest districts from the city center develop rice, cereal, livestock (poultry, cow, pig) ⇒ The current agricultural rings of Hanoi quite much familiar to Thumen‘s structure. Planning developed agricultural production. Innovated policies mechanism, consolidated the production relations in agriculture. Strengthened investment for technical infrastructure. Application of modern technical progress and technology in suburban agricultural production ring. Layout and training agriculture labor. Established suburban ring agricultural production models, development coordinate farm – industrial forms. result 4. recommending Some solutions to develop suburban agricultural rings in Hanoi Von Thunen’s agricultural ring theory is an useful tool in studying the suburban agriculture rings in Hanoi and the agricultural ring in other provinces and cities or in the whole country. From Thunen’s structure and Gravity model, the study has set up a distribution map of potential value for some agricultural products and assessed the expanded Hanoi’s situation of agricultural production as well as the formation and development of the agricultural rings. Based on the research results, the study has given out the orientations and solutions to develop Hanoi suburban agriculture rings till 2020. CONCLUSION
