The wars killed a dozen of millions of people in Europe and Britain had to suffer heavy losses of human lives and property. He is now referred to as “Conan Doyle” the origin of his compound surname is uncertain. He was sent to the Roman catholic Jesuit prepartory school Hodder place. Stony hurstat the age nice.In 1875 he left the school, he had rejected Christianity to became an agnostic. From 1876 to 1881 he studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh. While studying he also began writing short stories. Following his term at university he was employed as a ship’s doctor on the SS Mayumba. He completed his doctorate in 1885. In 1885 he married Lousia Hourkins .After his wife’s death, he married Jean Elizabeth.
